Lost In The Tsunami Review

Lost In The Tsunami is the touching story of the intense bond that inevitably exists between a mother and child no matter how tense the day-to-day relationship. Anna is recently divorced and initially on a mission to discover her “true” self by, in part, severing parental ties to her daughter, Ronnie. It isn’t long before Anna discovers that before she can remake the relationship into one of friendship, of mutual respect, she must help Ronnie resolve the anger she feels as a child for her mother. Unfortunately, it may be too late. Ronnie is missing.
In fact, Ronnie has been missing for hours, perhaps days, before Anna discovers her disappearance, and her search quickly grows more and more frantic. Anna is left desperately trying to get to know her daughter in her absence so that she might find her and bring her home safely yet there is much that Ronnie has kept from her. Dorit Silverman masterfully fleshes out what drives both Anna and Ronnie in their orbital relationship and makes plain the mistakes that have come between them.
As Anna’s search leads her far out of her comfort zone and into her daughter’s footsteps we follow her through TelAviv and eventually deep into India. I felt Anna’s desperate hope with every lead, at every turn. Then her crushing pain upon learning that Ronnie’s last known path led her directly into the path of one of the deadliest tsunamis of our time. With the barest sliver of hope, Anna must face the probability of never finding Ronnie,of never even knowing what happened to her child. Every mother’s worst nightmare.
